  6. There is an actual “science” based in the study of meanings of flowers known as “floriography.” Used during the 18th century, this was based off the Turkish practice of Persian Selam, which basically was the practice of sending messages via coded bouquets of different flowers typically of forbidden affection, emotion, and commonly love due to cultural and social restraints. Specific flowers and herb combinations carried different meanings and it was up to the cleverness and discretion of both the sender and receiver to translate these floral love letters. I have to say, it’s pretty useful if you want to send love letters to your distance girlfriend without her nosy roommates reading it haha. Romantic huh?

  7. Also, the Japanese have a very similar practice and set of floral translations known as “Hanakotoba”
