I was recently told that I had blocked arteries and would require Open Heart Surgery and at only 41 years of age this really scared me.

My Mother was so supportive and loving that it was due to Her support that i made it through this period a great deal easier than with out Her, and it was while I was recuperating that I realized that ” My Mother is the Greatest” TRULY

This is the first blog I’m dedicating to my mother, in fact this is the first time I’m dedicating something to my most beloved person in this earth… I feel ashamed of myself for getting inspiration from flora2000; without them announcing the Mothers Day contest it didn’t even strike to do something like this… Many a times I was thinking hard for a blog topic for a blog post and I don’t know why this didn’t strike me… Anyways thank you flora2000 for striking a nail in my head…
    I personally owe a lot to my mother for without her I’m not in this world… I don’t know how many times I’d have provoked her but ever time what she gave in return was her kindness… Further more she is one of the smartest person in the world ever I’ve seen… Let me share this experience;
I bunked my classes for the first time when I was in my grade 10 and got caught!! Can you all guess how?? While washing my uniform there was no dirt in the collar and she caught me…

She always taught me the value for money and how to lead a life within our means… Though I differ with his point what I admire from her is the way she managed things when my father was the single earning member and the no. of people who are dependent on his income were more (myself, mom, sisters, fathers mom, )…
Mom was always good when it comes to money and she saved a part of my father’s salary without his knowledge and she was able to buy a ground / plot of land and she was able to use some money for constructing our house… I’m sure my father would have built a house for himself (he would have spent more for me, my sister and his siblings instead of saving)…

I’ve always been very poor in my academics and I was the biggest head ace for my mother and after my graduation I ventured into entrepreneurship and was fairly successful and I’ve not done anything to my mother…
What my mom expects from me is simple things like having breakfast/dinner together and taking her to temple… But I’m unable to fulfill her small wishes like this… I’m planning to take oath for this mother’s day to make my mother happy by fulfilling her wish at least one day in a month…

I take this opportunity to wish my mom and all beautiful mothers a Happy Mothers Day…

  3. Elfie says:

My most precious moment with my mother was the day I gave birth to m first son. I was a young 20 year old alone and scared because my fiance had left me prior to having my son. My mother asked me to come home so that she could take care of me. I went through a difficult pregnancy, but the birth was even harder. She coached me through my terrible labor which was over 36 hours. She comforted me and helped me through 2 hours of exhausting pushing. Once my son was born, they whisped him away and we did not know how he was. My mother then took on her protective mode and did everything in her power to get updates and find out what had happened to my son who I still had not gotten to see yet. After 4 long hours… In walked my hero, Mom, with her grandson in her arms. She handed me my son and said to him “Say hi to the best Mommy in the world.” At that moment I realized how lucky I am to have a mother as wonderful, supportive and strong as my mother. She is my best friend and we will forever have a stong bond that can not be broken. The bond of motherhood…..

  4. Val Fieth says:

My Mum gave me the best wedding ever from involving her many friends to help as she had given us all her savings to put down on our dream house. We had a dream wedding from an amazing amount of love, creativity and joy. Planning and hard work too.

  5. Traci Faulkner says:

Every moment of everyday I think about how great my mom is.

  6. Janet says:

Contrary to the popular jokes, my mother-in-law is the greatest. She is now in her 90th year, and for all the 32 years I’ve been married to her son, she has always been there for me to consult on homemaking, childrearing and life’s little problems, but not even once has she ever criticized me or given me unsolicited advice. This is very remarkable, and makes me love her very much. She still loves to garden, so winning a bouquet of fresh flowers would delight her!

  7. Alexandru Climov says:

I always know, how much i love my mom. But i understood this much more, after i didn’t see her more than 1 year. I miss my mom very very much and hope we will meet this summer. I think on 5th May everybody must call or meet (if possible) their mothers and tell how much love them.

It was a touching moment when I saw my Mom’s prayerbook. I was organizing all of the stuff in our house and other old things from Italy that were sent back to Manila. So I went checking all of the pictures and then I found a little notebook that look so old. I didn’t realize it was my mom’s prayer book. I browsed through it and I was just so moved that my mom has been praying for every little thing about us. Whenever we sleep, when we ride a bus, me and my siblings future partners, schooling, future jobs and all. It is great to have her in our life. A prayerful mom… So this comment is one way of saying how grateful I am to have you Mom in our lives. You are a magnificent mother. Mother will always be God’s given source of wisdom… To all the mothers out there. Happy mothers Day!

  10. Michael Orlando Moncrieffe says:

My mom was the strength of the family. She would sacrifice her own happiness to put smiles on all of our faces. Even at my bother funeral she allow the family to grieve while remain so strong, and not shedding a tear of her own.

  12. Maya Arai says:

My mother let me, the only child/daughter, come to pursue my education here in the US, 25 years ago. She was a strict mother to me during childhood, but let me “fly” and pursue my dream at age of 17. We live so far away opposite side of the globe, but we are the best friends throughout my adult life. Whenever I face difficulties, her wise advice she gave me while growing up, helps me tremendously. She is recovering from a cancer surgery this year, in her bed she deserve a beautiful bouquet more than anybody. I’m proud daughter to announce here that she is the greatest Mom.

“I think my mom is the greaatest woman alive. She went through hard things when she had my brother and me. She loves us a whole lot. I can never repay her for taking such good care of me. She loves me so much, she never thinks we are boring or even when we ask weird questions,
she just answers them like they we the best ones. Now you know why my mom is the best mother ever! ” – That is my son’s words about me –

As I am out of the country, about to be married, and broke all I want to do is be able to send my mom a note and some flowers to make her day special like she did for all of mine growing up.

  16. Siobhain Magee says:

    My Mom is my life.

  17. Ricardo De Lima says:

I guess all mothers are important and should be recognized and specialy the ones who are alone or who have lost their loves for some reason or another so I think it is best to recognize the ones whose life has been touched by tradgey and also your own for giving you life in this world!!!

  18. Paul Kitamura says:

That special day approaches when we stop to appreciate that special person who gave us life, our first meal and the love to help us become who we are today.

What better way to celebrate our appreciation and love to Mom than a bouquet from flora 2000

  19. henry cartagena says:

My mother is the most important person in my life, she has loved me unconditionally if i’ve been bad or if i’ve been good she’s alway been there for me which is the reason why i love her so much!

  20. GLORIA O. REYES says:

A MOMENT IN MY LIFE WHICH MADE ME STOP AND THINK “MY MOTHER IS THE GREATEST” WAS WHEN I BECAME A MOM MYSELF AND REALIZED ALL THE EXTENT OF PAINS AND SACRIFICES A MOM WOULD GO THROUGH FOR LOVE OF HER CHILD.

  21. Gabriella Vagnoli says:

I still remember one day, when I was probably 6 or 7 years old, I was at school and from my classroom window I could see the entrance of the school. It was near the end of classes and I looked outside and saw that my mum was waiting for me, she was wearing a red blouse, I still remember that, and I thought she was the most beautiful mum of all….I was so happy to see her there waiting for me, I just wanted to rush outside right into her arms…She has always been my safe place, and I still love her very much and I hope that my kids will see me in the same way that I saw her that day.

  22. Sam Schmieding says:

Two years ago my sister and I were contacted by friends and family that one of us needed to move home and help our mother, who was exhibiting signs of dementia. Our father had passed away four years before, and mother had done well until shortly before we were notified of these concerns. After witnessing her strange behavior over the holidays that year,
I volunteered to move home, leaving my Arizona home and faculty position at Arizona State University, because I did not like Phoenix, wanted a change in my life, and most importantly, because I wanted to give something back to my mother who had always been there for me.

As family caregiver of dementia (diagnosed as Alzheimers) patients will confirm, doing what I am doing can be the most difficult and unpleasant task you will ever undertake. To witness a formerly bright person slowly disappear — “the long slow goodbye” is indeed an apt name — is very sad, and to deal with the neurotic insanity of Alzheimers is extremely draining emotionally. However, despite these difficulties and the negative impact this move had on my career, it was necessary logistically for the family, and most importantly, for my spiritual life.

My mother is after all responsible for my existence, and despite these end-of-the-life difficulties, I must remember the good times — her singing Sentimental Journey to me when I was sick, cooking those marvelous meals when I was a child, attending my baseball and basketball games, meeting with my teachers, loving me when I had serious problems as a teenager and young adult, supporting me through my graduate studies, helping organize my academic files after father died, and most of all, continuing to love me, even now, when she rarely behaves rationally and is difficult to be around for any extended period.

Mother, don’t worry — I am still here until the end!

    Love,

    Sam

  24. Tanis Darling says:

Realizing my mother was the greatest came in a funny way. She’s always done everything for me and my sisters, scheduling, caring, working, pushing, generally keeping everything in our family going. And all my life I have strived to be an independent woman. i did not realizing that that independence came from both the example that my mother set, and the support that she (and my father) provided . When I reached my thirties people starting saying I was ‘just like my mother’, and now that I have had time to reflect, I realize that that is the greatest compliment that anyone could give me.

  25. Sandra Saber says:

It was when my twin and I were 11 years old and my Mother went into labor with my little sister and her water broke and she did not let us know because she did not what us to worry – so she sent us to school before calling some one to help her and I thought when I found this out after school – wow my Mother is the greatest – she endured that quietly so we would not worry or be scared.

  26. preeti says:

Mom,I love you” A MOTHER Should be strong and guiding
understanding and giving honest and farthright
confident and able ,but most of all a mother should be a loving woman
who is always there when needed
you are everything that a mother should be and more
    I LOVE YOU MOM

  29. Neha says:

Among several instances when I felt my mum is THE BEST, one in my fresh memories which not only surprised me but everyone else around was the SURPRISE VISIT of my mum on my Birthday in the UK.
My mum is in India and a homemaker with very limited exposure to the outside world. After my dad me being the eldest have been working here and supporting for funds. however my mum knew how homesick I am living in the UK for past 3 years alone and she decided to Surprise me on my Birthday she saved up for few months for her flight got in touch with her cousin who is in London and got her visa sponsored, sorted everything and gave me a Surprise on my Birthday with me having no clues of this at all. It was indeed a pleasent surprise and everyone around me were Shocked to see her as this would definately need a lot of effort, planning, initiative and thoutfulness to make someone so close to you happy by such a great gesture and effort, which probably even I wouldnt have thought of doing if in her place. That sets my MUM apart from everyone else and not only me but all my friends do say that ‘MY Mother Is The Greatest ‘.

  30. Nektaria Tentes says:

Although in this day and time it is uncommon and unheard of but my mother and father had nine of us. I am the second oldest. I think she is a hero for a lady to stay home, no income and give up her whole life, devoting it to her children while cooking up gourmet meals and treats was one of the few moments we realized my mother is the greatest. My father worked alot so she did it all at home. With us older girls to help her, we realized the sacrifices she made for us as we become older. I would love an opportunity to show this lady the love she deserves by sending her one of your beautiful bouquets. I buy my mother-in-law in Italy a couple and she calls crying she is so touched and says they are gorgeous. Thanks for that!

  31. Imran says:

    There are 2 instances for that;
    1) when we realized that my mom had been battling Breast Cancer, she stayed strong and was tough. Faught it until the end. When we found out that she beat it, and was a survivor. Eveytime i think of that, i think “MY MOTHE IS THE GREATEST” shes a fighter and survivor.
    2) Also, this year as i moved to England from Canada for school, i was scared and depressed to move, my mom secretly saved money (even tho it was hard for her) and flew to England with me for my first few weeks, to help me get settled in and made sure i wasnt too home sick. I said “MY MOTHER IS THE GREATEST”

….i definately think my mother is the greatest!

  32. ZIad says:

It all started when our dad walked out on us and disappeared. We were 7 children left with no money nothing but a rented house and our mom who wasn’t working at the time. We got deported from the country where we resided and thrown out of school for not making the payments.

What does our mom do? She sells her small house back home and she took 2 jobs to support us all. She deprived herself from everything so that we’re admitted back to school and she sacrificed everything so that none of us need anything. She took alot of humiliation in good heart because she fought for us.

Now I’m an aerospace engineer very proud of my brothers whom all finished college and can’t help but cry every time I see my mom for not being able to give enough back to her but I do realize she is the “greatest mom in the world”.

  33. Kitty Rede says:

I was the victim of a violent crime and my “normal” life was gone instantly. I called my Mom and said “Mom I need you”. She could tell by my voice that I really did need her. She didn’t ask any questions but got on plane and flew from Anchorage Alaska to California to support me. That is unconditional love and she was there for me at the worst time in my life. My Mom is THE BEST and I love her very much.

  34. dima kittaneh says:

Sometimes we don’t fully appreciate or recognize the best gifts we’ve received until the giver is no longer with us. This is especially true of mother-daughter relationships.

A good friend recently lost her mother, and has been spending her free time clearing out her mother’s home, sorting through clothes, papers, boxes, memorabilia, and housewares.

I know what she’s going through, and how difficult it is.
so we should thank god always that we still have a great mother

  35. Marisa Ramcharan says:

I must have been no more than 10. It was the end of the school day and a car pulled up along the side-walk where we waited to be picked up and taken home. The guy said that he had been sent to get me. I politely declined to get into the car. The man at first was amused by my insistence to not get in, he told me who he was and how he was related to me. What he said added up but I didn’t know who he was, or how he knew what he knew. I continued to refuse. In exasperation he drove off and left me. When I got home it turns out the guy WAS sent to get me. When I explained to mom what she always told me about NOT accepting rides from strangers, she was so proud. Over the years the implication of this slowly sank in. Somehow, mom did a stellar job instilling this vital safety tip in me. “Don’t accept rides from strangers, no matter what they say.” Mom, for keeping me safe, you’re the best!

  36. L Bermudez says:

There are too many moments that I can recall thinking that my mom was unique! Lucky me… Being one of five siblings I often wondered how my mom managed to make you feel like you were her special one! I never felt jealousy towards my siblings.
There is one thing that comes to mind often to put a smile on my face. When I was in fourth grade after having moved to a new city and new school, I was struggling with my studies, especially mathematics and I thought it was the end of the world. I had an older brother who happened to be a genius so I felt the pressure (something my parents did not induce). Anyway, in my own despair I wrote a small note “for my eyes only” and hid it in my desk at home. One day my brother was looking for something and as soon as he opened my desk’s drawer I ran to stop him which gave me away. He read it and gave it to my mom. I felt ashamed and devastated with my parents knowing what I had written.

Things got better with school, the years went by, but I still struggled with mathematics which I dragged like a heavy load all through highschool. When graduation day came along, I was not really appreciating how far I had made it and basically was sitting there during the ceremony uninterested. When they called my name to receive my diploma I took it and went back to my seat without even opening it. I kept it in my hand until the whole group had received theirs and then the principle of the school started to give the graduation speech. Suddenly the principle starts to say that one of the moms had given her something extra to slide in one of the students diploma and that she had to apologise for peeking and reading what that mom had to say to her daughter. I was still looking around to see which of my classmate’s mother had done this, until the principle asked, addressing me at the same time: can I please borrow that note you have with your diploma for a minute?
The principle read my moms message (which I had not seen yet) to all present and basically inspired the graduation speech on it. The whole auditorium had tears of emotion. My mother was recalling the day that I wrote, with bad grammar: – I don’t want to go to school anymore, I know how to read and write and this is all I need to know, I hate to study….etc, etc. – My dear mom, had saved that piece of paper to show me one day, not only the importance of an education but to value my accomplishment. Graduation day was meaningful not only for me but all the students that day, thanks to my mother.

  37. Ahmed says:

my mom is mother to five children including myself. she works at the same private school i used to go to, and all of my younger siblings currently attend, in order to get reduced tuition fees. to her, a good education is very important. she is a full-time english and geography teacher. yet, she constantly refuses to accept the idea of getting any hired help for the housework, cooking, cleaning, etc. she insists to do it all herself. which is quite a chore considering the amount of family members I have, and was (in my opinion) probably the reason she recently got arthritis in one of her hands..
my parents have a thing for moving. throughout my life, weve lived all over the states and in many other countries like libya and saudi arabia. its hard as it is making friends in foreign countries when you only speak english, but when you have tons of kids, a full time job, and countless other tasks and worries, its a small wonder my mom doesnt have much of a social life.. let alone much time for herself. she constantly sacrifices for my siblings and my family in general, and not only am i grateful.. but I am very proud to have a mother as great as mine. an irreplaceable woman that I can never thank enough for always being there for me, and doing the job she did raising me. she truly is the greatest

  38. Willie Sullivan says:

I have always know that my mother was a great lady. I have been in Iraq working with the U.S. military for the last 3 years. Last year when my wife left me for another man it was my mothers help that turned my life around. I came here to earn extra cash to get out of finance trouble. My ex-wife took all she could get and ran with it.
My mother now takes care of all the thing I cannot from Iraq. It has been her help and advice that has turned my life around. She steped up and helped with everything from the renters thaat are in my house to handling the everyday thing that come up.
My first 22 month here my ex-wife sent me a total of 5 care packages. My mother sends 2 and sometimes 3 a month.
My mom has alway been there. Thank you Mom.

  39. Frannie says:

The greatest moment in my life where I stop and think how lucky and blessed I am to have such a great mom happens almost every day……………. when I recognize thru her life , thru her simple daily actions how my mom is the most giving person, a heart all made for her children.
If I really have to pick a special moment it falls back to many years ago, just the day after my daddy passed away, she had the strenght, the love and compassion to come to watch me performing my Dance Recital, at that time I was studying to become a professional Ballerina. I will never forget that night. Thank you Mom. xoxoxoxoxo

  40. dima kittaneh says:

my mom is always there for me.. she give me advices always and keep supporting me no matter what is my decision, but the latest moment i felt that she is the greatest about month ago.
my mom and i were very sick even she is more than me, but she stayed awake with me all the nights , she gave me medicen and made me hot drinks to make me feel better, she took me to the doctors and she forgot her illness and she was in need to take care about her but she forget her sickness to support me untill i recover.

  41. dima kittaneh says:

The world’s greatest mom in the world is my mother, she has been the best mom I could never think of having. She always has been the perfect provider, the most giving person I know, and she disciplines me. She is the greatest mom a girl ever had!
My mom is the perfect provider. She gives me clothes to put on my back and shoes to put on my feet. My mom is the greatest because she feeds me. She makes sure I have a nice hot plate of food every night for dinner, and a snack when I get home from school. She gets me junk food and money when she can. My mom is the perfect provider because she gives me everything I need.
She yells at me when I don’t do my chores. She might even hit me because she loves a clean house. My mom yells at me when she doesn’t know where I am because she gets worried. She disciplines me when I lie, because it is wrong and there is no reason to lie. She usually makes me feel bad so I won’t do it again. she is the greatest mom because she disciplines me and if she hadn’t I wouldn’t be the young lady I am today.
She is the greatest mom because she is the perfect provider; she gives me everything I need. My mom is the greatest because she disciplines her children, and teaches them right from wrong.she is also the greatest mom because she is the most giving person I know. she is and always will be the greatest mom and that’s why I love her. I hope that everybody has a mom like her.

  42. rabia atif says:

  43. Carol says:

So many memories and loving thoughts come to mind when I think of mom. It’s tough to pick one, “My mother is the greatest” moment. Her sparkling smile, the little notes she would leave on my bed with words of advice and filled with humor. Mom staying up late to make sure I got home alright after an evening with friends. I never saw her “sweat” when things got tough. patiently nursing me back to health when I got sick , moving cross country when I knew she was scared to be on the freeway with all those “big trucks”. She has always kept it together. Nonetheless, the most awe inspiring time when I hear myself stating more than usual that “my mother is the greatest” is happening now. My father was recently diagnosed with cancer. Mom is caring for him and still working full time, regardless of the fact that she’s past retirement age and making it all look so easy – when we know it’s not. Mother’s are great and I hate to say that mine is the greatest…but she truly is.

  44. Joan Parker says:

Mom, or Mam as she calls herself. She immigrated to Canada with her new husband to make a better life for her family. She then moved hastily to Florida from Canada to save her oldest child from recurring bronchitis and pneumonia. She was a stay at home mom who always had kind words and a snack when we returned from school everyday. She looked after her oldest child fervently until her death three years ago and concentrated on my fathers health for the past several years. She looked after him and loved him for 65 years until his death this past Christmas. Yes mothers are great and we all love them, but my Mam has stood the test of time, my sisters and I all know we are truly loved by the best.

  45. Jon says:

I recall the instance when I was involved in my first and only car accident when I was young (teens). It was late at night and was returning home after a night out. I was stopped at the freeway off-ramp awaiting to make a turn onto the main street. A second later I was jolted with such force it left me winded and in shock. I wasn’t even sure where the impact originated from. The other vehicle fled as I was collecting myself together after which I stepped outside to assess the damage. The back half of my car was smashed in like a soda can. I was able to walk home as the accident occurred just a few blocks from home.

It was late so I planned to tell mom about the incident tomorrow morning, but she was waiting for me almost like she knew something bad had happened. I guess that’s what mean – Mother’s intuition? I expected to be dealt an asswhopping/punishment of a lifetime as this was the biggest f-up to date. With the mix of all those emotions and expecting to be grounded indefinitely with no privileges and an endless list of chores, I just broke down. (this was my first car which she bought for me just a few months prior)

Her reaction just blew me away. Mom is the hard-willed, tough love, independent pull yourself up type with Natzi like control and composure. In other words high expectations and no BS. But she just consoled and hugged me like a newborn. After I had calmed down she made me something to eat so I could sleep.

To this day I will always recall those feelings of being alive and connected. She has always given me everything I need to live the best life I can, whether it was a smack on the face to get back on track or the warm smile and hug after a bad day. I thank the man above for being in one piece and my mom who is the GREATEST!

She just turned 80, looks 65, still cute. She travels the world (last trip Turkey.). She’s internet-savvy. She received a fellowship at age 35 when she already had 2 kids and went to grad school. She’s health-conscious. She would bring me the coolest books and creative projects to do when I was little. She is no storybook mom. She can drive me nuts. She still nags me as if I am still a teenager. She makes me feel guilty. She is super-smart and funny and makes me laugh. She is an original and I would never trade her for anyone else.

my mom is the greatest mother, when we were young my father would not let her go to college. so she would say she was going some where else and would attend one college class a week to graduate at the age of 53. when i was 10 my father had broken his back and was hospitalized for quite some time, more than a year and was out of work for a significant amount of time, mom was left to tend for 3 kids and a husband learning to walk again. 2 years later my sister felt ill and again my mom had to tend for someone in and out of hopsitals for months at a time for 4 years, still taking care of all of her responsibilities!! she is a saint!! go mom go, and guess what she is now attending graduate school. love her and she doesn’t need flowers to know she is special but it would be nice, and i would like for everyone to know how much she has done!!
