5 Contemporary Christmas Wreath Ideas

Did you know that the Christmas custom of hanging a wreath on the front door has been taken from Rome’s New Year celebrations? Romans wished each other “good health” by exchanging branches of evergreens. Contemporary wreath designs often don’t even involve evergreens anymore. We’ve explored a few wreath designs that are made from anything but evergreens. These wreaths are fun to make and will make your front door look great for the Holiday celebrations.

Snowman Wreath

This Snowman shaped wreath as the name suggests, doubles up as a wreath and a Snowman. For the hat, you can cut out a black card-board in the shape of a hat. The three circles can be made of scraps of white cloth woven in circles around a wire twisted and turned in the shape of a circle. You can use a spare red scarf to keep your Snowman wreath warm.

Santa Wreath

This wreath combines Santa and the spirit of Christmas in an innovative way. Weave scraps of bright red cloth around a wire twisted in the shape of a circle. Attach a belt made of cardboard in the center of the wreath. You can give “Ho Ho Ho” a skip, as the wreath is self-explanatory.

Rudolph Wreath

The reindeer Wreath is yet another subtle yet elegant way of adding the magic of Christmas to your front door. Get a burlap wreath and place large a red berry in place of Rudolph’s nose. You can carve the antlers out of red card paper.

Wolly Candy Cane Wreath

Wrap wool threads of red and white in parts around a circular tube. Embellish it with an artificial snowflake and sprigs of red and white berries.

Woody Wreath

3 Easy Steps To Make A Floral Halloween Centerpiece

Set the mood right for Halloween with this easy-to-do Halloween centerpiece.

Materials needed:
– 1 Pumpkin
– 1 Knife
– Flowers of your choice, preferably gerberas, cushion mums, red daisies.
– huckleberry, salal yellow oak leaves and artificial fall berries to accentuate the arrangement.

Step 1. Get a fresh pumpkin that is at least a foot in size.

Step 2. Cut the top of the pumpkin and scoop out the seeds.

Step 3. Fill the pumpkin with water halfway and then add the suggested flowers, or the flowers of your choice. Put the pumpkin’s top over the flowers, at an angle and your Halloween centerpiece is ready!

Tip: For a secure arrangement, you can put a floral foam (soaked in water) inside of the pumpkin and then stick your flowers in it. Use an artificial pumpkin, that way your arrangement will last long.

Exploring Hawaii’s Floral Treasure

Hawaii is home to one of the world’s most exotic flora and fauna. Hand-woven flower garlands are often put on tourists and other guests and women adorn their hair with fresh plumerias in this paradise-like land. Hawaii’s abundance in flowers makes it one of the most unique floral paradises in the world. We’ve explored and handpicked Hawaii’s alluring flora so that you can view them without having to visit it.

Ma’o hau hele

The Ma’o hau hele that is also known as the Hibiscus brackenridgei, is Hawaii’s State flower. The tree that houses this beautiful flower can grow up to 10 meters tall. This flower is native to dry forest and shrub lands and grows at elevations from 400 to 2600 feet. It is found on all significant Hawaiian islands, except Ni’ihau and Kaho’olawe. Much to the dismay of flower lovers, this flower is listed as an endangered species.

Koki’o ke’oke’o

The Hawaiian, name for the Hibiscus flower is quite queer. This flower has its origins in Hawaii itself. With large white and wonderfully fragrant blossoms, it grows in mesic forests at low elevations (below 3,000 feet elevation). This species grows only on the island of O’ahu.

Nanu

Also known as Gardenia, the tree that holds this beautiful flower can grow up to 15 feet.
This too is an endangered species that is found in dry forests at elevations from 1100 to 1700 feet.

Tiaré is a sub species of this flower plant.

Koli’o

Another name for this gorgeous flower is the Hibiscus kokio. This is a subspecies and usually grows as a shrub or a small tree growing up to 3 to 7 meters in height.

This flower is native to the island of Kauai in the Hawaiian Islands. The juice of the leaves and buds of this flower plant are used to treat constipation.

Melia

Melia is also known as Plumeria. Although this flower is native to tropical America, it grows abundantly in the Hawaiian islands.

Ko’oloa ‘ula

Also known as Abutilon menziesii, the Ko’oloa ‘ula is native to Hawaii and is an endangered species.

Koali ‘awa

Also known as Ipomoea or Hawaiian moon flower. This flower is native to pacific islands, and is found in abundance in the Hawaiian Islands.

Alena

Also known as Boehavia repens, this sprawling herb is common along dry coasts and leeward slopes.
