Happy Birthday America!

The American Revolution was a beginning, not a consummation. ~Woodrow Wilson

On July 4, 1776 the Continental Congress approved the Declaration of Independence, announcing to the world that the 13 American colonies no longer belonged to the Kingdom of Great Britain and were free and independent states. Every July fourth, America celebrates Independence Day with fun, fireworks, parades and barbecues.

A spirited cookout with friends and family is a time honored Fourth of July tradition; with a little flair and originality you can make yours an event to remember. Send out your star spangled invitations well in advance and start planning a menu of barbecue favorites like hotdogs, spare ribs, hamburgers, corn-on-the-cob, potato salad and blueberry pie. In addition to little American flags, patriotic streamers and bunting, create decorative centerpieces with red, white and blue flowers. It’s the height of summer and you will have your pick of red and white roses, carnations, lilies and several others while delphiniums and irises provide magical shades of blue. Fourth of July bouquets are also the perfect present for your host if you’re a guest at an Independence Day party.

So, start planning and have a great time this Fourth of July. After all, it’s America’s 234th Birthday!

1) Carry it as a bridal pomander. The bright orb is a kicky approach to the traditional bridal bouquet.
2) Hang it from the chandelier. There are no worries of being able to see over the table centerpiece if you hang it above eye level.
3) Suspend it from your favorite tree branch, spread an orange table cloth on the grass and invite your dearest friends to a picnic. The addition of flowers makes it quite the festive event.

Groom’s Stephanotis Boutonniere

The fragrant stephanotis blossom makes a fetching boutonniere for the groom. Commonly called Madagascar Jasmine (referring to its native home) Stephanotis is a sweetly scented flower that blooms into a 5 pointed star. The pristine white blossom has been a wedding favorite for decades. Representing “Bridal Happiness” in the Victorian language of flowers, the bloom can be enhanced with ribbons and pearls to coordinate with the bridal bouquet.

A DADication

Parents always tell their children: I love every gift you’ve given me. Little wonder that children often take their parents for granted. Honestly now, don’t you? This probably explains why your sentimental Papa owns so many interesting ties and cufflinks that can never be worn in polite society.
A good present cannot be thought of and procured at the last moment. Plan ahead; after all, this is your chance to show Daddy how grateful you are for all the birthday parties he’s bankrolled.

As men get older their fondness for food increases- Enlist the help of family members and throw your dad a surprise dinner party. Set the table with his favorite flowers; choose brightly colored and fragrant blooms. Indulge him with his favorite delicacies, wine and chocolates. And most importantly, join him for dinner; your father loves being with his family. Parents of grown up children especially look forward to it — do not let them down. If you can’t cook, show up at your parents’ house with a hamper of delicious treats; the important thing is for everyone to be together.

A Dadication
Perfect Pick- Take it along or send this perfect gourmet pick containing bread, crackers, beer, etc.

In addition, put some effort into selecting your Father’s Day present. What does Dad secretly yearn for that he keeps putting off buying? Do some sleuthing and pool some money. The smile on his face will be worth far more when he sees an autographed picture of the sports star he idolizes, or raises a glass of a coveted Single Malt.

Though he seldom says it, your father loves being acknowledged and pampered for all he has done for his family. Don’t disappoint him. Make sure he has a Father’s Day to remember. And hey, sweeten the experience even further with one of Flora2000’s exquisite Father’s Day bouquets.

100 Years of Father’s Day

Father! – to God himself we cannot give a holier name.
~William Wordsworth

A time to honour paternal bonds and fatherhood, Father’s Day now includes all father figures, such as uncles, big brothers, fathers-in-law and step-dads. While ‘honouring thy father’ has been a part of every culture around the globe, the modern Father’s Day owes its origin to the efforts of one Sonora Smart of Washington. Her father, William Smart raised six children as a single parent and Sonora wanted there to be a special day dedicated to fathers like hers.

The first celebration took place on William Smart’s birthday, 19th June 1910 at a small church in Spokane. The congregants wore roses on their lapels—red roses to honour living fathers and white in remembrance of those who had passed away, a tradition which has continue since. Today, father’s day is a time for family outings, barbecues, picnics and presents and is celebrated with enthusiasm around the world. This year, Father’s Day falls on 20th June, so remember to do something wonderful and make your dad’s day!

Cherry Brandy Roses

Wow! It is amazing, the new and wonderful type of roses that can be found at Flora2000. Fabulous large blooms with petal counts beyond belief! One of my new favorites is the Cherry Brandy. How to describe it…. Kind of orange, kind of bronze and a touch of hot pink – you have to see this bi-color rose to believe it. The color evolves as it opens and seems to change with the light throughout the day. I placed this trio of bamboo vases filled with Cherry Brandy roses on my desk over a week ago – hard to believe they are still lovely. Long lasting, beautiful big blooms and fantastic color… what is not to love?
