Orchidelirium!

There is something wonderful about presenting a loved one with a living, flowering plant, especially one as beautiful and exotic as an orchid. Indoor potted Dendrobium and Phalaenopsis orchid plants are surprisingly easy to care for and make memorable and unusual gifts. Contrary to popular belief, orchids are not difficult plants, nor will they need a temperature-controlled greenhouse and painstaking protection from the elements. A little weekly watering and lots of sunlight should keep them in flower for months.
Both Phalaenopsis and Dendrobium orchids have long been coveted for their exquisite loveliness and long blooming season. Spectacular Dendrobiums, with their drooping stems and copious, trembling flowers, have an air of mystery about them. The gracefully arching Phalaenopsis, aka Moth Orchid, is prized for its flaring, oval petals and moon shaped flowers.
Whichever orchid you choose to gift, it’s graceful, fluttering form will add a touch of elegance and a splash of color to the atmosphere.

Cut … ever so slightly

Hand-tied bouquets, with flowers in long stemmed, circular clusters and long-tailed, swirling bows are back in vogue. The expert hands at Flora2000 bring you this style with a twist… of gossamer ribbons and floating underwater crystals. The aptly named Pocket of Posies features two mini- bouquets of satiny Lisianthus and light, crepy Statice. The focus is on re-creating the quaint, garden-style look based on principles of modern design — such as using contrasting colors, textures and sizes, and juxtaposing exotic and tropical materials with traditional pink or red roses.

Accompanying our Pocketfuls of Posies, are rings of a variety of Roses— glowing Goldstrikes, pristine white Emmas, pink-rimmed Attractas and deep red Baccaras. The classic, hand tied bouquet is characterized by delicately arranged concentric circles of these colorful blossoms, all of which feature extensively in the new Summer 2010 Collection.

Flora2000’s India collection- The second coming!

It’s nearing summer and glowing, sun-kissed flowers arranged in traditional garden-style designs are in vogue. The new Flora2000 India Collection is inspired from, what else, the warmth of the summer sun. Our designers have painstakingly recreated the ‘garden style’ look, showcasing assorted flowers that seem like they have been freshly hand-picked from an English garden to be the centerpiece for an intimate tea party.

The new additions include some original, stylized designs. Unusual materials like tendrils from Areca trees, and strong green shafts from Palmetto leaves, twirl themselves around swirls of exotic flowers like Phalaneopsis Orchids. Extensive use of warm reds, pinks and yellows; fluffy carnations with full, serrated blooms; and Lisanthus with their flaring, moon-shaped petals, make for stylish arrangements that also exude an element of coziness and warmth.

Here’s a small preview of some masterpieces from the collection:

Crème Fraîche

Malabar Sun

Mother’s Day Lilacs

Lavish, lavender lilacs… the intoxicating fragrance takes me back to my childhood. My grandmother had an enormous lilac bush in the yard (At least to this little girl, it seemed enormous). Each year I’d watch and wait for the explosion of color. It usually peaked at Mother’s Day; the perfect time for gathering and gifting. I’d pick a bunch and rush them home to Mom. Still today I gather and gift lilacs for Mom but now, I visit the florist and add a few more favorite blooms. Lilacs and tulips and roses – mmmmmm….. Mom will love this!

Tulips and Lilacs for Mom

As beautiful as a painting from the Old Master’s; mixed tulips and lilacs are a striking Mother’s Day gift. Even better, the fragrance is Mother Nature’s original aromatherapy, perfect for Mom. Is your Mother a hopeless romantic? Pick soft lavender hued lilacs and peach colored tulips. Is your Mother a vivacious adventurer? Pick vibrant purple lilacs and bright orange tulips. Can’t decide which is best? Put them all together – lavender, purple, orange, peach and a bit of yellow, red and blue – a little bit of every color in the rainbow is perfect for your all-around wonderful Mom.

The Perfect Vase

Can’t find the perfect vase? Look in the kitchen… a simple water pitcher, a canning jar or glassware make fabulous floral containers. A dinner plate filled with shot glasses makes a dramatic (and easy) floral accent for the home. Just gather your favorite blossoms, cut them short and drop them in place. Of course, once you see how wonderful it looks, you’ll have to rush out and find more shot glasses!
