Flowers in the Morning

The sun comes up and it’s out of bed. OK, often it is out of bed before the sun comes up. Where is the coffee? Oh, no! It’s a bad hair day. Does this sound like you? Perk up your day with coffee and flowers. Yes, a little pot of flowers sitting next to the coffee pot is sure to start you off on a good day. I love this baby Oncydium orchid plant. It’s radiating stems exude the random chaos of the morning. Bed head for me and my flowers! Add a bagel (toasted with cream cheese) and you know it will be great day.

Daffodils

Happy daffodil time! Like little rays of sunshine the vibrant yellow daffodil can light up the room. These early spring blooms ask little in return. Just give them a fresh cut and place them in water mixed with flower food. They’ll last a little longer if you keep them away from direct sunlight, heat sources and drafts. But of course, set them where you’ll see them often.
Spring blooms have fleeting beauty. Enjoy them now before they are gone!

The History of Valentine’s Day

History Valentines Day

Flowers, chocolate, champagne, love notes and romance. We all know the trappings and most of us celebrate Valentine’s Day, but very few know that the holiday honors a young priest named Valentine who was put to death nearly 2,000 years ago. Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers, so he outlawed marriage for young men. Valentine was outraged by this injustice and continued to perform marriages in secret for young lovers. In due course he was discovered and sentenced to death. While in prison he fell in love with the jailer’s daughter. Before he was taken away to his execution, Valentine sent a letter to the girl and signed it, “From You Valentine”, an expression that we still use today. Eventually Valentine was grated sainthood and in 496AD, Pope Gelasius declared February 14 as a day to honor Saint Valentine.

Waterford Crystal adds a sparkle to David Beahm’s collection

Designed by David Beahm, the New York Signature Collection is the creative work of a dedicated and innovative artist. The collection features exquisite and rare flowers that are further accentuated by their very own designer vases like the elegant Waterford Crystal’s Lismore Collection.

David has ingeniously used a few vases from this collection such as the Lismore Crystal bowl, an unusually shaped cylindrical vase from the Lismore Simplicity collection and an Old Fashioned Crystal Tumbler from the Lismore Classic collection. Waterford Crystal’s prized Ice Bucket from the Marquis Collection also makes an appearance.

These vases not only compliment David’s arrangements, they will stay long after the flowers, as an exquisite keepsake. Every time your loved-one looks at it, they will be reminded of your loving gesture.
