In Your Easter Bonnet

Easter Bonnet

Are you ready for the Easter Parade? Easter means new white patent leather shoes, a flower dress and matching hat. A traditional New York City Easter morning meant a trip to church and then joining the Easter Parade. Made popular by the song written by Irving Berlin, The Easter Parade is a festive Walkabout in New York City, starting at St. Patrick’s Cathedral and meandering down Fifth Avenue.

“In your Easter bonnet, with all the frills upon it,
You’ll be the grandest lady in the Easter Parade.
I’ll be all in clover and when they look you over,
I’ll be the proudest fellow in the Easter Parade.
On the avenue, Fifth Avenue, the photographers will snap us,
And you’ll find that you’re in the rotogravure.
Oh, I could write a sonnet about your Easter bonnet,
And of the girl I’m taking to the Easter Parade.”

Hats of all shapes and sizes are back in style. Look around and find the perfect bonnet for yourself. Add a few fresh blooms and you are ready for your own Easter Parade. For a whimsical touch, add a butterfly accent. Soon, you’ll be singing…. “I’m the grandest lady in the Easter Parade”

Where’s the vase?

Where does a flower arrangement begin and end? That is the eternal question. Or, it is at least the question of the day when you create a containerless arrangement. What am I talking about? Containerless designs are flowers in floral enhanced vessels. The vases are covered with foliage or the floral foam is wrapped in leaves. Sometimes the container is concealed with branches. Simply put, containerless designs are flowers in an organic vessel. What could be more eco-conscious and creative as well? The next time you want a floral design that is guaranteed to get attention, check out Flora2000 for those special arrangements.

Spring Wedding Bouquet Trends

Spring Weddings

This year’s spring bride is choosing a sophisticated collection of flowers for her Bridal Bouquet. Softer pastels in the spring blue palette are the most popular hues. Bouquet styles are more traditional, but elegant and filled with blossoms.

Roses, the flower of love are still the bridal favorite. They now are available in many colors, tints and shades making it easy for the bride to find the perfect rose for her color palette. Orchids, especially Cymbidium and Dendrobium are a popular choice and add an exotic element to the bouquet. Hydrangea blossoms add the romance of the garden and continue the soft blue trend.

Mix and match flowers and colors, choosing your favorites to create the perfect eclectic bridal bouquet.

Blooming Branches

Blooming Branches

Spring is in the air and the buds are beginning to swell on the trees in my neighborhood. Now is the time to get a jump on spring by gathering an armful of your favorite branches. Forsythia, plum, cherry, almond, magnolia, azalea, lilies and tulips can be used to add vibrancy to your living room.

Give the branches / stems a fresh cut and set them in tall vases of warm water throughout the house. Be sure and change the water every three days and you will be rewarded with the opportunity of watching the tiny buds expand, and then explode into full colorful blossoms. For a whimsical touch, glue artificial butterflies to your branches. After all, if the forsythia is blooming the butterflies can’t be far behind.

Floral Orbs

Floral Orbs

March 20th is the Spring Equinox, a moment in time when the sun is directly over the equator and length of the day and night is nearly equal at any point on earth.

For those of us in the northern latitudes this marks the beginning of spring and the warmer, sunnier days to follow. How Grand! I think it’s time for a party.

An equinox party should have a celestial theme. Planetary orbs of carnations in spring are perfect. Arrange them on a field of cut up carnations stems. Your guests will be amazed by the floral orbs. The drink of the evening is vodka martinis and for dessert, Moon Pies, of course.

St. Patrick’s day and the wearing of the green just got better with the fabulous green flowers available from Flora2000 – carnations, freesia, spray poms, roses etc. Wow! So many green choices!

Gather your favorites and add a Four-Leaf Clover; one leaf for hope, one for faith, one for love and one for luck

In the middle ages, it was believed that if you found a four-leaf clover, not only did it bring you luck but you would be blessed with the ability to see fairies and sprites. This lore led children to hunt the fields for the magical four-leaf clover and enter the realm of the fantasy world.

Add a touch of green magic to your life this St. Patrick’s day.

A Special Handmade Gift

Did you know that each and every flower arrangement is lovingly crafted by hand? It is hard to believe in this age of mechanization and mass production but it is true. Each and every flower arrangement is created by a floral artist. The flowers are picked at the perfect point or maturity, gathered together and assembled into a lovely design; each and every one slightly different from all others. I think that is one of my favorite aspects of the floral world. The seasons change, the flowers bloom and every design created is an original work of art showcasing Mother Nature’s beauty.
