Halloween has its origins in the festival of Samhain among the Celts of ancient Britain and Ireland. 1st November was considered the end of the summer period, the date on which the herds were returned from pasture and land tenures were renewed. It was also a time when the souls of those who had died were believed to return to visit their homes. People set bonfires on hilltops to frighten away evil spirits and for relighting their hearth fires for the winter, and they sometimes wore masks and other disguises to avoid being recognized by the ghosts thought to be present. It was in these ways that beings such as witches, hobgoblins, fairies, and demons came to be associated with the day.

3 Easy Steps To Make A Floral Halloween Centerpiece

Set the mood right for Halloween with this easy-to-do Halloween centerpiece.

Materials needed:
– 1 Pumpkin
– 1 Knife
– Flowers of your choice, preferably gerberas, cushion mums, red daisies.
– huckleberry, salal yellow oak leaves and artificial fall berries to accentuate the arrangement.

Step 1. Get a fresh pumpkin that is at least a foot in size.

Step 2. Cut the top of the pumpkin and scoop out the seeds.

Step 3. Fill the pumpkin with water halfway and then add the suggested flowers, or the flowers of your choice. Put the pumpkin’s top over the flowers, at an angle and your Halloween centerpiece is ready!

Tip: For a secure arrangement, you can put a floral foam (soaked in water) inside of the pumpkin and then stick your flowers in it. Use an artificial pumpkin, that way your arrangement will last long.
